With a population of more than 562,000, the Vaucluse Department is committed to tackling the digital divide locally. It is spearheading a nationally significant infrastructure initiative: the deployment of ultra-fast broadband. This ambitious €28 million program is designed to connect the entire department to fiber-optic internet and fully aligns with the region’s broader digital development priorities.
To support the project, Sfil and La Banque Postale provided a €3.8 million social loan over 15 years.
Structured in three phases, the program aims to connect every municipality in Vaucluse to fiber optic service. The second phase of the project, carried out between 2019 and 2021, laid the groundwork for high-performance digital coverage. Once completed, a total of 8,500 km of fiber-optic cable will be installed, enabling the activation of more than 125,000 FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) connections and covering nearly 123,000 households across 105 municipalities.
Thanks to this initiative, Vaucluse is equipping itself with modern digital infrastructure that promotes equitable access to ultra-fast broadband, boosts the area’s attractiveness, and strengthens economic competitiveness for both residents and local businesses. The project fully supports the department’s digital transformation and innovation agenda.
