Public street lighting retrofit in Var

The municipality of Puget-sur-Argens invested more than €1.7 million to upgrade its public street lighting under a “performance-based contract” (Marché global de performance).

Context

Located in the Var department, the municipality of Puget-sur-Argens has a population of over 8,000 and has committed to reducing its energy consumption.

Solution

To support this project, Sfil and La Banque Postale provided a €397,000 green loan over 15 years.

The municipality therefore invested more than €1.7 million to retrofit its public lighting (LED fixtures and remote management/monitoring).

Results

As part of the performance-based contract, the municipality reduced its energy use :

  • first by dimming public lighting levels between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. ;
  • then by gradually replacing conventional lighting with LED streetlights that are just as effective and far more environmentally friendly.
