The Abidjan metro is a key project for the sustainable growth of the Ivorian capital. This project, jointly carried out by Alstom, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Colas Rail and Keolis, was awarded the “Deal of the Year Africa” prize at the TXF Global export forum in June 2023.
1.3 Bn € Project cost
The population growth and rapid urbanization of Abidjan require a structural mobility solution to relieve congestion on the roads and improve the living environment of the inhabitants. This project aims to facilitate the movement of 530,000 people per day, thanks to park and ride facilities and connections with buses and taxis. It will also offer an economical and sustainable solution to the disadvantaged populations of the suburbs.
To support the construction of this strategic infrastructure, Sfil has significantly contributed to the export credit intended to financing of the project, entrusted to the French consortium Alstom, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Colas Rail and Keolis. This financing will ensure the development of urban transport in Ivory Coast while supporting the export of French industrial know-how.
The Abidjan Metro will promote the creation of local jobs and reduce air and noise pollution, thus contributing to the improvement of public health and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. This project also illustrates the confidence of the Ivorian authorities in the French consortium know-how.
